Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of 2023.

Victory also means he has won 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
