Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
